In 2009 Alison Jones, a full time Maths and Science Teacher with five school aged children, was diagnosed with advanced (Stage 3) Multiple Myeloma. Following Alison’s diagnosis, her community rallied around delivering evening meals each night for the first year of her treatment. Alison was so moved by this experience she wanted to share her story as a way of honouring her community. Vowing to do more with her life not less, Alison began writing her memoir ‘The Jones Family Food Roster,’ which is threaded with some of the recipes from these meals. It is a story about: – the power of community and impact on health and wellbeing outcomes – parenting during a time of crisis – choosing empowerment during adversity – developing a growth mindset to shatter limiting beliefs – embracing life on your own terms and – hope Certain that cancer research saved her life, Alison plans to raise $1 million for cancer research and to date has raised over $760,000. All author royalties from the sale of her book are being directed to the Peter MacCallum Foundation. alisonjones.petermac.org.au
