PhD candidate, MA by Research in History, BA (Hons) in History and Major in Photomedia
I am an academic at the University of Melbourne, teaching and lecturing in a range of history subjects and nearing the completion of my PhD which explores Jewish architects, designers and urban developers in mid-century Melbourne. Recent lectures I have given include explorations of Renaissance cities, migrants’ impact on modern Melbourne, and Jewish involvement in 20th century American culture. I enjoy the breadth of subjects I teach at Uni Melb, such as the history of Melbourne, histories of sexualities, the history of cities, the history of modern architecture, and the history of democracy. I was previously Curator of the Jewish Museum of Australia for five years where I developed, wrote, designed and installed 18 exhibitions, including Andy Warhol’s Jewish Geniuses, Can we talk about Poland? and The Jews of Greece, which all drew on my broad knowledge of Jewish history. I enjoyed a hands-on role, hosting a range of tours, lectures, workshop and public events while at the museum. I have completed an MA by Research and B.A.(Hons) on Jewish life in fin-de-siecle Vienna and Jewish involvement in 20th century American film, photography and literature. I am also engaged with the contemporary art world, having been an arts writer for Art Monthly and Art Guide Australasia and working at a range of galleries such as Neon Parc.
